09 starts with woes for McAleer
It was a tale of woes for Omagh teenager Nicole McAleer who had only celebrated her
17th birthday just a week before the start of the 2009 British Superbike Championship.
When she arrived at Brands Hatch for the opening round of the Relentless 125GP
Championship she was hoping that the good testing at Cartagena during February was
going to be a good omen.
However that was not to be and although on the Friday’s test day she was well on the
pace, but by Saturday’s first qualifying things were going downhill, with her 125 Honda
struggling to get to grips with the new fuel for the 09 season and the weather starting to close in she was disappointed to qualify outside of the top 20 where she had been during free practice.
Despite not qualifying as far up the field as she had hoped she was still upbeat for a good race but was dejected when her race ended on Monday at Druids on the sighting lap, when her team mate accidently clipped her front wheel, taking her out and with too much damage to the fairing she was forced to watch the race from the sidelines.
However not beaten yet the teenager will be back on board in a few weeks time at Oulton Park for round two, on Monday 4th May 2009.
